ATLANTA THRASHERS GIRLS’ & WOMEN’S HOCKEY SHOWCASE WEEKEND
Saturday, October 24th @ Philips Arena
- Current US National Team player training for the 2010 Olympics
- A two-time Olympian (silver-2002, bronze-2006)
- 11 time USA Hockey Women's National Festival participant (1998-2005, 2006-09)
- Chu played four years for Harvard University of ECAC Hockey
- Her 284 career points is tops in NCAA history. Three-time All-American
- Assisted the Minnesota Whitecaps capture the Western Women's Hockey League championship
- Named top role model at the Canadian Women's Hockey Championship in 2008-09
- As assistant coach for the University of Minnesota Duluth women's ice hockey, she helped lead the team to the 2008 NCAA national championships
ADULT/WOMEN'S HOCKEY CLINIC (AGES 13 & UP)
Women’s Hockey Clinic: At Philips Arena
1:00–2:00pm: 13 & Up Skills Clinic
- Featured US National Team Player Julie Chu will host a 1 hour skills clinic.
- We’ll divide the groups by age/skill and host a 30 minute rotation of small area games.
- This 30 minute jamboree will allow the Adult players to interact with younger female players and provide a role model experience for our younger players. It will be a great opportunity to connect the ages and highlight the strength of women in sports. This Jamboree portion is essentially a scrimmage for all ages. Of course like age/skill level will be scrimmage against one another, but on the bench you’ll be able to cheer on the younger players and give them pointers between shifts!
3:00–3:30pm: Meet & Greet with Olympian Julie Chu (photo and autograph opportunity).
GIRL'S HOCKEY CLINIC (12 & UNDER)
The 12 & under clinic is a 60 minute fun skills & games clinic with an additional 30 minute jamboree (scrimmage) at the end.Girls’ Hockey Clinic: At Philips Arena
2:00–2:30pm: Fun, Small Area Games: Featuring Olympian Julie Chu
- We’ll divide the groups by age/skill and host a 30 minute rotation of small area games.
- This 30 minute jamboree will feature female hockey players of all ages! It will be a great opportunity to connect the ages and highlight the strength of women in sports. We will divide up the players of like age/skill level for the scrimmage, but on the bench you’ll be able to cheer on your teammates of all ages!
3:00-3:30pm: Meet & Greet with Olympian Julie Chu (photo and autograph opportunity).
THE TICKET FOR THIS CLINIC WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Participation in the above outlined clinic: 2 hours of ice time on NHL Ice!
- Entry into the pre-game Hockey N Heels event (supporting breast cancer awareness)
- Ticket to the Atlanta Thrashers vs. San Jose Sharks game at 7:00pm
- Women’s Hockey Weekend T-shirts
- All of the above for only $50 per player (additional game night tickets available at discounted rate)
The Thrashers game will recognize and support the growth of girls/women in the sport of hockey by featuring female hockey players in all intermissions and pre-game ceremonies. Ask us about how to win a spot to participate!
