Steve Weeks
Assistant Coach
Steve Weeks, who is in his seventh season with the Thrashers as an assistant coach, has more than 25 years of experience in the NHL as a player, coach and professional scout.
In addition to his regular duties as an assistant coach, Weeks serves as a goaltending specialist for the club, working closely with Kari Lehtonen, Johan Hedberg and the team’s other goaltenders on a daily basis.
Prior to joining the Thrashers on June 26, 2001, Weeks spent eight seasons with the Hartford Whalers/Carolina Hurricanes organization from 1993- 2001 as a coach and scout. After retiring as a player, he joined the Whalers in 1993 as a goaltending consultant and served as an assistant coach during the 1996-97 season. He was named as the team’s goaltending coach/pro scout when the team relocated to North Carolina for the
1997-98 season.
Weeks played 13 seasons in the NHL for the New York Rangers, Hartford, Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings and Ottawa Senators.
During his NHL career, Weeks compiled a 3.73 average with five shutouts and a 112-119-33 record. He also appeared in 12 NHL playoff games, earning a 3-5 record and a 3.33 average.
Prior to turning professional, Weeks, who was selected by the Rangers in the 1978 NHL Draft, posted a 59-26- 5 record and a 3.34 goals-against average in 96 games over four seasons at Northern Michigan University from 1976-80. He led Northern Michigan to the 1980 Frozen Four, beating Cornell 5-4, in the semifinals, before losing to North Dakota 5-2 in the title game. He was named to the CCHA 1970’s All-Decade Team.
A native of Scarborough, Ontario, Weeks represented Canada in the 1985 World Championships, earning a 3-1 record and helping the team to a Silver Medal.
He has three children, Emily, Wyatt and Owen, and resides in Duluth.
