Last year in Ottawa the Thrashers used the third overall pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft to select Zach Bogosian who wasted no time demonstrating why scouts had said he has the potential to become a franchise defenseman. This year Atlanta used the fourth overall pick to draft budding power forward Evander Kane from the Vancouver Giants, making him the highest drafted player of African-American heritage in NHL history. The Thrashers drafted nine players total, including forwards Carl Klingberg and Jeremy Morin who were both taken early in the second round. When it was all said and done the Thrashers drafted six forwards, two defensemen, and one goalie.
