Thrashers Building On Past Drafts
Thrashers EVP and GM Don Waddell continued his tradition of making deals on draft weekend as he dealt one of his third round picks to Pittsburgh for rugged forward Chris Thorburn on Friday and then acquired depth forward Jesse Schultz on Saturday in exchange for minor-league defenseman Jimmy Sharrow. That left the Thrashers with four draft picks which were used to select three forwards and a defenseman in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, held at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, OH on Friday and Saturday. The Thrashers used their first choice on forward Spencer Machacek (3rd round, 67th overall) followed by: Niklas Lucenius (4th round, 115th overall), John Albert (6th round, 175th overall), and Paul Postma (7th round, 205th overall). The team did not have a first or second round selection in this years draft.
